How old are you?: 23

When you are most active? (including timezone): Mon - Fri 6pm-1am Sat,Sun 11am-1am PST or UTC -8

Roughly how much time do you dedicate to the server each week?: Depends on the week due to infrequency of my job and other factors, on average 10-20 hours

Names of notable characters you play in Vorestation: Miriam Rera, Saran Demuto, Camden Primo, Sunny Flume

How long have you been playing Space Station 13?: Since Roughly mid May 2021, so a bit over 6 months (It may be longer, but this is the earliest I could verify 100% of being accurate)

How long have you been playing Vorestation?: Roughly May 2021, Vorestation was my first experience with the game

Explain what most interests you about being staff: I want to be able to make fun and help host fun events for everyone

Explain what you think you will least enjoy about being staff: Moderating actions, I personally dont enjoy moderating or even dictating large scale decisions involving people or executive decisions (Im under the impression that Game master wouldn't really handle this much if at all.) this dosent mean that I cant do so, its just that I don't really like being in positions of too much power over others as I always worry that I somehow fuck up inadvertently. I understand that I would likely need to moderate any event I host myself and that would be fine, Im just referring to more general cases.

Describe what role-playing means to you: To behave and act in a believable way for a specific character, while at the same time having the character be in itself a believable character to begin with within the scope of that setting. Additional note because I don't know if it fits the frame of the question but I also think role-play should also due to its social nature in essence be made in an effort to not ruin it for others

Define what a "Problem Player" is in your own words: Someone who causes a number of problems and issues over and over again due to their conduct, and even when asked to stop or change their behavior is either dismissive or aggressive and continues to behave appropriately

Define a "Toxic Player" in your own words: A player who actively goes out of the way or entire purpose is to ruin the environment and enjoyment of others.

Define "Admin Abuse" in your own words: Using the privileges of an Admin to either help or hurt a player based on the individuals personal preferences or agendas. (To specify, for the help part I will specify that this more pertains to abusing power in an effort to try and gain favor with someone or only use the powers for friends and acquaintances while ignoring other duties)

In your opinion, what the biggest problem with the server right now?: Not much Variation. Depending on roll and department you are in sometimes its just a case of doing some basic setup then its just sitting around talking. To make it clear I by no means want to have action 24/7 or events all the time that consume the whole shift duration, just some minor things to interject at low energy times for those who want to.

How would you have it resolved?: I hope to be able to host large scale events and facilitate smaller but still controlled non-organized events

Consider the following questions, and answer in your own words:

  • What kinds of events are you most interested in running in general?
I dont really have any real constraints to run, I suppose my biggest would be Im still not confident in combat so anything that would involve it may not be the best if it requires me to fight. Other than that I would be fine running anything from free-form with a loose style to a more focused theme.
  • Describe a larger event you would like to run.
A larger event I was hoping to run, and to be honest one of the reasons I considered making this request would be a casino event. (If all you wanted was a general description skip the rest of this as I go into more detail) My idea would be along the lines of during a seasonal lull in tourism and therefor guests an orbital station Casino reached out to NT with a deal to grant an exclusive deal for the day to let employees play games there and use the amenities to keep company moral up as well as re-cupping cost to of the low visitor season. This wouldn't be explicitly be a vore themed event, but more as a way to facilitate role-play, involving gambling, bets, and potentially seedy/underhanded practices(assuming all parties involved are ok with it ooc). Additional side note, but I probably would also have it so that the Casino would give every employee 100-200 chips(In game said to be provided due to the contract with NT) therefore everyone regardless of job has the ability to play and enjoy the casino, but would IC be explained that due to this chips cannot be cashed out for cash (Additional chips can still be purchased with thallers if people want to just not the other way around, this is not necessary, but more of an explanation of why the Casino would give away so many free chips to players).
  • How might you go about selecting volunteers for your event?
In general I would probably first need to know what days and chunks of time people have the most available, then afterwards I would make an open call for various roles and preferences. With what I had in mind I would likely need people handling a bar, security, tables, as well as a casino floor manager to keep things stable. Additionally in the case these rolls became vacated or rotate out so they could enjoy the event as well I would likely ask in character to potential offer staff chips/cash for filling in where needed. In an ideal world I would probably try to get two sets of employees, so that partway through they can work in shift that way everyone can do what they want. Additionally I would probably make a call for player to be living winnable prizes at the casino as a way to facilitate scenes for those who want to be (I will get more into this in the problems section)
  • Consider your event, what kinds of problems do you think you might run into, both in running the event, and from the players during the event?
Potential issue 1, staffing: if there is not enough people to run games or handle running the casino compared to non-casino employees, the through-line of the event could crawl to a halt.
Potential issue 2, living prizes: Its an iffy ground and is rife for potential issues in regards to ignored ooc prefs and potential issues that need to be addressed.
Potential issue 3, lack of interest: its possible while I think the event would be interesting and fun others may not.
potential issue 4, lack of planning: Whatever I plan, there is always a chance something could go weird
  • How would you handle those problems?
1: I want to be able to get a series of main staff as well as if possible have reserve staff(people who are not actively on but if number players shift/people leave/or get involved in scenes I can call on them to potentially fill in) Additionally Im hoping to get a shift system up as signing up for a smaller chunk of time may seem more available for people then a full 6 hours (I could be completely wrong and it only makes it harder this is just my hopes)
2: My main goal with any living prizes transactions would be to guarantee any and all interactions with the system would be first cleared ooc, no matter what. Both the act of becoming one, and also the act of purchase needs to be ok with all parties involved and their prefs respected. Any and all transactions MUST be cleared ooc unless, preferably with both parties talking it out first ooc to make sure in addition during the ensuing scene afterwards they both understand the others expectation.
3: I dont have much a way to address other than to make the event fun, and in the case people dont, to make it non-intrusive to those who are on the main station
4: I need would need to be active and attentive during the event in order to be ready to handle situations as they happen before it all piles up.

Moving on from talking about your event specifically…
  • You noticed that the exploration team has made their way to virgo four, how might you spice up their time there?
In all honesty I dont know the limits of what can be made/spawned mid round for both events on the map and creatures, as such my response would be based on if its possible.
A Possible fun situation could range from strange particle emissions causing mega-fauna, sometimes aggressive, to potential criminals hiding away around corners to provide something to track down.
Assuming it could be set up, more large scale things could be strange archaic ruins that need to be fought through, potentially with an npc or some other object of interest in the center to make the trip feel worth it.
  • You noticed that a miner or an explorer has run into some trouble out and away from the station, do you help them? How, if so?
I suppose it depends on the person and the circumstances. If they are in the process of getting help nearby and my assistance would be unnecessary or interfere I would not. Assuming the prefs match up such that they want event involvement and couldn't/are too far away from others I may attempt something along the lines of a rouge machine/independent explorer/other being coming along to help them out in a pinch, then explaining my presence ic and try to work with it from there based on how it seems to be going.
  • You noticed that four people who look like they might be trouble have appeared on the station. Their flavortext and ooc notes perhaps leave something to be desired and they are obviously working together. But they don’t seem to be hostile, they seem to have some kind of silly gimmick going. A concerned ahelp has come in about it. What do you do?
I would probably first attempt to talk to and ascertain directly in ooc about intentions of the group, make sure there were no misunderstandings or misjudgements. From there if they seemed to be both non-griefing players as well as their actions did not actively ruin/interfere negatively with other player I would probably make sure to monitor them and ask them to be willing to openly state in occ their intentions to others as to show their intentions. If I couldn't judge or believe them to be malicious I would first attempt to inform an admin and pass on my judgement of what was occurring, If no-one could be reached I would do everything in my power to resolve and deal with the troublesome players (Again this is under the assumption that as a Gm Im not really supposed to be actively moderating and disciplining people, If im incorrent in my assumptions please correct me as I still don't have a clear list of everything expected of a GM)
  • Someone is vocally upset about how things have played out during an event that you were involved with, what do you do?
First I would want to willingly hear them out and their grievances, try to understand why they were upset. Then while explaining my actions/event I would do my best to let them know how/why what happened occurred as to let them get an understanding from my perspective if applicable. In the end I would want to take their feedback and advice on how in the future to avoid or better handle that form of mishap in the future, both to improve and also give them a feeling that their input is being taken into account. Additional side note, if it gets really bad I may get someone else to help moderate or talk to the other in the case that it may help either party cool off or express issues in a non-aggressive manner.
  • Someone is being verbally abusive and disruptive in general. How would you handle this?
I would probably try to pull them aside and address them personally about their behavior, at first probably in a non-accusatory way as to not put them on the spot or shaming them in the case it was a legitimate accident or something was lost in translation of some kind. If Continued I would likely more firmly without outing anyone express concerns with their behavior and conduct, explicitly stating issues and explanations for why they are being pulled aside along with a warning that they need to stop. In extreme or continuous cases I would likely attempt to contact an administrator and explain as clearly as possible the situation to help them deliberate.

What prior admin/moderator/management experience do you possess, if any?:
In all honesty I dont have any real large scale admin/moderator/management experience, I understand if that is a red-flag and you cannot accept my registration due to this. I would hope that at least while learning I could ask others on the staff when they are not busy for assistance in responsibilities for proper conduct.

Finally, what unique aspects of yourself can you bring to the staff? What can you bring to the team that is, in your opinion, needed?:
I dont really know what I can add yet, I understand that may not be a great answer, but its my honest one. I mostly applied here because after giving it a lot of thought I thought it would be fun to help make and handle events for players to enjoy themselves.

End notes (you don't have to read, just small addendum)
Thank you for taking the time to read through my application, sorry if it was a bit longer or shorter than it was supposed to be, I didn't have a metric to judge it by. Additionally while it wasn't one of the questions given, I will state upfront and admit that I do not have all to much of a presence in the discord, this is due to my personality of not posting things when I don't feel that its necessary as i tend to keep to myself alot, once again I understand if this is a red-flag or a reason to not accept my application, in the case that I am accepted I understand and accept the responsibility of needing to publicly post respond and communicate with others to fulfill my role properly. As I noted above it would be appreciated if I could get a more clear and laid out list of tasks and expectations given to a Gm as so I can understand, I hope you have a good day!

As far as I know gamemaster applications are actually supposed to be closed, it is beyond my power to actually fix the sticky but I figured someone should say something to explain why this has been sitting for almost two months with no response. Anyway I am neutral with a lean towards support, mostly because lack of activity recently.

Thank you for the clarification on the application status, I applied is because I assumed it was open.

For the lack of activity, I have not been as active the last 2 weeks due to a sudden intense increase in work leaving me with very little time even on weekends. Due to my free time not being as stable as I thought it was and not knowing when it would be better, I have considered revoking my applications for the sake of transparency about being unable to properly fulfill the role.

Would it be for the best that I remove the topic?

Yea, I mean, there is nothing really wrong with copypasting this application or whatever if we open for real but right now nothing is likely to happen I expect.

Well, I'm gonna throw out the question we're all thinking at least to potentially get the ball rolling, or at least find out if it should still be rolling.

Are you still interested in the position now that slots have opened up?
