Had an idea, doesn't by any means need to be implemented in game but wanted to discuss it as a lore potential vore critter.

Genetically modified Ribbon-worm, called leech for it's abilities.

with the addition of certain chemicals to it's diet and a few bits of other genetics and biology either chopped out or replaced.

A red-space material infused sort of worm. Has no true digestive system, and has this ability to shoot a web like appendage from its mouth end. Now, where the space end of it comes in is it is mainly fed the shrink mushrooms and space weed right? but has no digestive system to truly absorb the chemicals in it, and instead excretes the shrink stuff on the webbing, so, webs a larger thing, and shrinks it to a size where it can easily slurp it up along with the web.

Now from here it gets more interesting, the worm attaches to the prey like a symbiosis within the worm, using the chemicals stored within itself to shrink the prey to that point, and excreting a tranquilizer via space-drugs, so the prey is kept alive inside and stuck to the leech like a vestigial stomach, the leech absorbs nutrients via force feeding the prey other organic matter (fruit, meat, etc) , and this also keeps the prey alive and well inside, though numb in the mind. the base creature is an actual thing, and this alteration was engineered in.

Now personally I like to think that certain slime genetics could have been added in for the purposes of the pseudo assimilation thing, like a limited capability absorption that doesn't actually alter the prey into the matter of the leech itself, but rather just holds them inside.

As there does need to be a way that wouldn't just involve cutting them out. Perhaps a regurgitation trigger upon being submerged in liquid nutriment. since at that point the symbiosis would no longer be needed. and returning the prey to normal size, if needed, could easily be accomplished via growth shrooms or a shrink ray.

Now the thought was that, these could be used by spec ops/spider-clan/etc as a means of discreetly capturing and transporting targets to other locations. Handled with gloves so as not to be an unwitting prey themselves, possibly used at range with some sort of launching device, and gathered after the leech has taken the prey.

The original creator of these would have likely made them for another purpose, maybe a biological creature capable of acting as a sort of stasis for injured individuals, medical or scientific purposes, something of the like. But they could have been stolen and re-purposed by others for the whole capture etc thing above.

Admittedly I don't want to over-use redspace stuff.

was mostly using redspace term due to shrinking things, if the shrinking mushroom chemical runs by a different medium, I can alter the synopsis.
